The General Company for Carbon Economics is dedicated to facilitating Iraq’s transition to a net zero carbon economy within the next generation. Our mission is to drive national efforts that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, foster sustainable economic growth, and build a resilient, low-carbon future for all Iraqis.
We will achieve this by:
- Developing and implementing innovative carbon reduction projects—including large-scale renewable energy, carbon capture, and methane abatement initiatives—to meet and exceed Iraq’s climate commitments.
- Supporting the elimination of gas flaring and the adoption of clean energy technologies to diversify Iraq’s energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Building partnerships with government, international organizations, and the private sector to mobilize investment, share expertise, and accelerate the deployment of climate solutions.
- Empowering Iraqi talent and institutions through training, education, and capacity-building, ensuring that the benefits of the green transition are shared across all regions and communities.
- Promoting transparency, integrity, and accountability in carbon markets and environmental governance, in line with international best practices and the Paris Agreement.
- Raising public awareness and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship for current and future generations.
Our vision is for Iraq to become a regional leader in sustainable development, ensuring that environmental protection and economic prosperity go hand in hand for the well-being of all its people.
